2011 Ford F-350 Super Duty

The more extreme a vehicle is, the more likely there is to be a Battle of the Specs, in which each manufacturer does its best to outdo the others with vehicles that are larger, faster, and more loaded with options.

This applies to pickups too, especially in the heavy duty market, where buyers typically ask a truck to do more than carry loads of wood or power tools in the bed. Instead, they’re towing fifth-wheel trailers and loading the bed with a couple tons of gravel – things that many regular grade trucks aren’t cut out for.

Ford’s entry in this group of über-pickups is the Super Duty. The truck has been completely revamped for 2011, but the highlight of the redesign is a brand-new 6.7-litre Power Stroke V8 diesel engine, conceived and designed in-house to replace the old diesel, which was built by Navistar (International Harvester) for Ford.

Diesels are popular among heavy duty truck users because of the amount of torque they can be tuned to produce, and this one produces a lot of torque. (more…)

Speed TV’s successful Bullrun reality show is returning for a 3rd season this winter. For those who do not know about it, you should. It is a fast past, adrenaline fuelled race across America that pits 12 teams against each other vying for $200 000 in cash. It is a car enthusiast’s ultimate dream competition.

2010 Ford Escape Hybrid Limited 4WD

Hybrid hype is flying high at my current place of employment, the Toronto production of the hit show Jersey Boys.

Many of the young cast members covet a hybrid vehicle. They want to be green. They want to be cool. They want to stick it to Big Oil. Bless their socks. They don’t really know what a hybrid vehicle is, or what it does, but they’re sure that with a little green hybrid badge they’ll drive around for free and butterflies will come out the tailpipe.

When I showed up in a 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid Limited 4WD, a twenty-something chap asked me what it was like.

“It has very good full hybrid powertrain, but you’re paying about an extra seven grand for it.”

“That’s okay.” He replied. “You’d make that back in no time.”

Uh, maybe if your commute took you to Timbuktu. (more…)

Profiling 47 Classic Mustangs from Ford

Michael Schlee

For over forty five years Ford has produced the Mustang. Keeping a model alive for 45 years alone is an impressive feat. However, the Mustang has sold very well over the decades making it the 25th all time most sold model around the world. Not an easy feat for a vehicle only sold in North America.

Road Testing a Ford Tempo, 16 Years Later

Michael Schlee

This past week I had the opportunity to travel back in time. I did not need a Delorean, a flux capacitor, or a vehicle capable of 88MPH (which is a good thing because the car I got wasn’t up to the task). All I needed was a 1994 Ford Tempo. So how did this come to be? Well, this week I took my car in for much needed maintenance. I am prepping it for an appearance at the Bullrun event in New York City in two weeks time. More on that event in future blogs.

While my car was in the shop, I needed to get into work. I am one of those people who lives no where near their place of work.  There is no viable public transportation options to get there either. I had no car, but absolutely needed to get into the office. So what was I to do? Borrow a 1994 Ford Tempo!  I made a call and found out it wasn’t being used that day. Success! What better suited vehicle could there be to travel clear across Toronto 50KM during rush hour? So what if it is 16 years old and has never driven more then 2KM at a time in the past 10 years? I had wheels.

ICONS – Part 1

.Models That Have Stood The Test of Time

Michael Schlee

Everywhere in life there are icons. They can be found in movies, music, business, sports, and yes, even the automotive world. Automotive icons are a rare breed. They represent more then just a model line for their manufacturer.

Car Icons represent a manufacturer’s ideals, technology, passion and purpose. Okay, that may be overstating things a bit, but for the most part it is true.

So what qualifies as car as an Icon? Many great cars have come and gone in North America over the years, such as the Countach, Viper, Supra, Chevelle, Cobra, etc. But the question is, were they truly icons? Great cars, yes; amazing cars even, but true long lasting icons? They were all important during their time in history, but for one reason or another, they were all discontinued. Also, being that we live in North America, we are only dealing with icons that made it to our shores.

2010 Ford Taurus

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

By Nauman Farooq

Despite tough economic times, Ford is pushing ahead with its product plan, and at the forefront is their new 2010 Taurus.

Once the best-selling car in North America, Ford is hoping that it will win new and previous customers with the new Taurus, which Ford says will be ʽan aspirational car.ʼ

At launch time, Ford is only offering one engine for the Taurus, a 3.5-liter, V6 which produces 263hp.

However, Ford also just announced the return of the Taurus SHO, which will come with their new Eco-Boost, turbocharged engine, which will develop 365hp. Plus you get a ʽSelectShiftʼ gearbox to play with on those enthusiastic drives.

The new Taurus is also available with a host of luxury features like adaptive cruise control, collision warning with brake support, intelligent push-button start, and a new feature Ford calls ʽMyKeyʼ which allows parents to activate a restricted driving mode for when they lend the car to the kids.

The new Taurus will be Fordʼs new flagship sedan and its vast array of features are certainly impressive. Look for it in showrooms later this year.
