Even if it’s based on an existing vehicle, a coupe will generally attract a different kind of buyer than a similar sedan, particularly if the coupe is distinguished from the sedan by more than the elimination of a couple of doors.

Certainly the Cadillac CTS Coupe, a new addition to the brand’s entry-level line-up for 2011, is recognizable as a modern Caddy, with its razor sharp lines, but a carbon-copy of the sedan it ain’t. It shares the four-door’s front clip and dashboard, but the rest of the look is unique to the two-door model.

Less unique is the coupe’s running gear, which consists of a 3.6-litre V6, a standard six-speed manual transmission, and an optional six-speed automatic. That leaves out the 3.0-litre V6 that serves as base power in the sedan. The CTS Coupe can also be ordered in high-performance “V” trim, complete with a massive 6.2-litre V8 and up-rated everything designed to deal with its extra poke. (more…)

6-Cylinder Engines That Pack a Serious Punch

Michael Schlee

The 6 Cylinder engine once was the ‘small guy’ in the North American automotive world. If you wanted an efficient vehicle in the 1950’s and 1960’s, you would opt for the 6 cylinder engine.

2010 Cadillac SRX

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

By Bill Roebuck

Surprisingly, Cadillac used the Toronto Autoshow to boast about a small engine. That’s right, Cadillac! In fact, this redesigned Caddy crossover offers the smallest engine the marque offers in any of its North American products.

The 2010 Cadillac SRX offers a choice of two high-tech six-cylinder engines that are new to the marque. A new, 3.0-L direct injected V6 is standard; optional is a new, 2.8-L turbocharged V6. Both engines employ technology that helps produce strong performance that is typical of larger-displacement engines. Direct injection enables a 25 per cent reduction in hydrocarbon emissions. Highway fuel consumption of about 8.5L/100 km is expected.

The optional all-wheel-drive system includes an advanced electronic limited-slip differential that distributes torque as needed from side-to-side along the rear axle, as well as from the front to rear axle.

The SRX seats five and can tow up to 1,588 kg.

Cadillac, like most luxury brands, had a fancier display set up then most.

All of their new vehicles made the trip to the show. From their eco-friendlier Escalade Hybrid, to the not so eco-friendly, yet awesome, CTS-V.
