2011 Audi TTS coupe

Back in 2000, the introduction of the Audi TT was something of a revelation. The car absolutely was the darling of automotive media around the world, and accolades for its striking design (both exterior and interior) were legion.

2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab 4×4

This gallery contains 8 photos.

I’ve never stood at the helm of an ocean liner, my hand on the controls, watching as the enormous ship responds to my commands. But way up in the cabin of my 2011 Ram test truck, I think I have some inkling of how it feels.

2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 4WD Crew Cab

This gallery contains 9 photos.

If there’s anything General Motors has learned from the tough times it faced in the past, it’s that you need to spend the money where it counts. So while the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado HD (heavy-duty) is a new model, you’ll probably say it doesn’t look much different from the 2010 version, apart from a new domed hood and chrome bumpers. That’s because the cash was channelled into the stuff that really matters on a heavy-duty: beefier frame, stronger suspension and more diesel power. It worked: the new model was named Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year for 2011. Continue reading

2011 Mercedes-Benz B200 Turbo Avantgarde Edition

This gallery contains 8 photos.

Back in the earlier days of motoring, luxury automakers often faced a dilemma. Well-heeled customers could be hard to come by, especially when the economy soured. One solution was to offer a smaller, less-powerful and less-expensive model that would appeal to a fresh round of buyers – but the plan often backfired. Wealthy buyers didn’t want to see their vehicle’s logo on one driven by a mere mortal, and often left the brand for one that remained more exclusive.

2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S

This gallery contains 6 photos.

I have been fortunate enough to pilot the 2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S at Mosport International Raceway and thrash it over the temporary course set up for AJAC’s TestFest at the Niagara Regional Airport. I know how astonishingly fast this car is, and how its all-wheel-drive and clever electronic aids, in conjunction with an intangible user friendliness can provide mere mortals a portal to heroic levels of speed and car control.

2011 Subaru WRX Sedan

This gallery contains 7 photos.

Talk about vindication.

The last Subaru Impreza I drove left me totally underwhelmed. Plain-Jane looks and an uninspired driving experience had me muttering things like “Why couldn’t Subaru inject some WRX fun into their entry level models?” Was I being too harsh on the poor $20,995 Impreza? Continue reading

2011 Jeep Wrangler

Jackson Hole, Wyoming – While driving a 2011 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited over public roads at highway speeds, I was able to carry on a conversation with the other two passengers without having to yell. Or even raise my voice.

2011 Mercedes-Benz E350 4MATIC Wagon

This gallery contains 6 photos.

Unbeknownst to most North Americans, station wagons are cool. Europeans, who are less caught up in the SUV/CUV thing, seem to know this. Why else would there be such critters as the BMW M5 Touring, Audi RS6 Avant, Audi S4 Avant, Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Wagon and Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon running about over there? Not to mention numerous diesel-sipping wagons from a host of manufacturers. Continue reading
