The term “sport sedan” isn’t one to be taken lightly. The archetypal sport sedan, after all, is the BMW 3 Series; it, and many cars like it, combines a practical four-door body with a choice of terrific powertrains and performance, albeit at a price that might be out of range for many family sedan buyers.

In that sense, a sport sedan is something of an aspirational purchase. It’s a car you might have to wait for while you toil away behind the wheel of cars you tolerate rather than treasure.

Among the automakers trying to edge into the sport sedan segment is Buick. While you wouldn’t expect it, the full-size LaCrosse is a very respectable attempt to do so by a company better known for catering to the motoring needs of elders, not enthusiasts. (more…)

Just when you thought the R8 couldn’t attract any more attention, Audi gives its V10 Coupe a roof-ectomy for 2011, creating the $187,000 2011 R8 Spyder 5.2.

Spending a week behind the wheel of this Brilliant Red ragtop, fitted as it was with a six-speed manual transmission and lovely optional five-spoke Rotor Design wheels, proved to be an exercise in avoidance – that would be avoiding cars that hung precariously in my blind spots, avoiding stares from gawking motorists and avoiding the constant urge to plant the happy pedal and hear that ferocious Lamborghini-derived naturally aspirated direct-injection 525-hp 5.2-litre V10 howl to its lofty 8,700 r.p.m. redline. The Saturn Outlook was introduced in 2007 as the brand’s first full-size crossover vehicle. It was built on the General Motors Lambda platform which also underpinned the 2007 GMC Acadia and 2008 Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse. In the cases of Saturn, Chevrolet and Buick, these trucks were intended to replace slow-selling minivans – the Relay, in Saturn’s case. The Outlook disappeared, along with the rest of the Saturn line, when GM discontinued it after the 2009 model year.

Success with dealer SMART solutions

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

“We are extremely pleased with the results we’ve seen…dealer SMART solutions is a turn-key solution that actually works!” says Michael Carmichael, City Buick’s Dealer Operator. “We’ve seen a dramatic increase in the number of leads for every department since integrating Dealer Smart Solutions’ T3000 Max package”. Specifically, City Buick has received over 100 more leads per month compared to their old website.

The top three things about dealer SMART solutions Michael Carmichael is impressed with:

  1. The ability to customize and build a unique website that sets them apart from competitors
  2. Ease of managing and updating promotions and inventory on their website
  3. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) capability that keeps their website ranking high in Google and other search engines.

2011 Infiniti G25

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Ever since Infiniti launched its G-series line-up, it has not only been winning numerous awards by the motoring press, but also has won the hearts of many buyers.

Part of the reason it has done so well is by offering variety. You can buy the G-series as either a sedan, a coupe or a folding hard-top convertible. You also get to choose between a manual or automatic gearbox, plus the choice between rear-wheel drive or intelligent all-wheel drive.

However, there has only ever been one engine on offer with the G-series, the 3.7-litre, V6. As impressive as this engine might be, Infiniti’s competition offer their models with a variety of engines. This enables them to price the car at different levels thus opening the market to a larger clientele. (more…)

2003-2009 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Monday, October 18th, 2010

By Chris Chase, CanadianDriver.com

In the summertime, there’s a guy up the street from me who regularly drives past my house in a late 1960s or early ’70s Mercedes-Benz 230. It’s a gorgeous car, and looks to be in mint condition. That 230 model (W114 series, 1968-1976) is one of many Mercedes models that can be found in the E-Class family tree, Mercedes’ mid-sized cars.

Interestingly, the “E” designation didn’t appear on a Benz car until the first fuel-injected models arrived in the late 1960s (the German term for fuel injection is einspritzung, according to Wikipedia’s entry on the E-Class), but wasn’t used consistently in its current form – E 320, for example, as opposed to 220E – until the 1990s.

If you follow the E-Class’ lineage, the model introduced in 2002 as a 2003 model is the seventh-generation of the car, and is also known by its W211 codename. (more…)
