Live from CIAS: Gemballa Mirage GT

There are tuned cars, and then there are properly tuned cars.

While you’re most likely to see a souped up Honda Civic or a Mitsubishi Lancer on the streets of Toronto, look harder and you might be lucky enough to spot the car featured here, the Gemballa Mirage GT.

This car is based on the Porsche Carrera GT, which most people would be rather content with just the way it is. But if the regular version wasn’t fast enough or looked crazy enough for you, then the German tuning house Gemballa can turn your supercar into a hypercar.

They start with massaging the already very highly tuned 5.7-liter V10 motor to an even higher level. The standard Carrera GT produces 604 hp, the Mirage GT takes that figure to 672 hp. End result is a car that can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds, while top speed is north of 340 km/h.

To enhance its vocals, the Mirage GT gets four exhausts (rather than two as on the standard Carrera GT). The noise would ensure all pedestrians will hear you coming.

The specially designed body-kit will ensure the lookers will keep their attention on this machine as it roars past. With its massive rear-wing and low-slung profile, it would be impossible to ignore it, so shrinking violets need not apply.

Nor should anyone who is a bit portly in their proportions because the non-reclining bucket seats are quite narrow. However, if you do fit, you’ll find that Gemballa has made some improvements to the interior as well. You get a beautiful new steering wheel that is wrapped in alcantara, and the top portion of the dashboard has been redesigned to accommodate a navigation screen.

Tempted yet? Good, because wait till you hear about the price. This Gemballa package adds an additional $400,000 on a car that was worth $500,000 to begin with.

The car at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto is on sale for $750,000, so it is a bit of a bargain. But finding this car at the show is a bit tricky because it’s not in the main exhibition halls of the North or South convention center. You will find it on the 800-level under the company banner “Elite Auto Share”, a fractional supercar ownership company that allows you to live with several high class exotics in the course of a year. This new company is operated by the same team that runs “The Car Experience”, a company which for the past 10-years has specialized in finding interesting and exotic vehicles for their clients from around the world.

They are at this auto show to promote their new company. With a car like the Gemballa Mirage GT, they are sure to get a lot of attention.
