A Brief Profile

Michael Schlee

Racing fans in Canada know the name Ron Fellows. In fact, racing fans around the world know the name Ron Fellows. Albeit from his successes in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, NASCAR or SCCA Trans-Am, Ron has made his mark in the motorsports world. In fact the terms icon or living legend are not that far off mark when talking about Mr Fellows’ accomplishments.

It is rare that professional race teams take time out of their busy schedule for a meet and greet session. But for those of you lucky enough to be in the Toronto area this weekend, you have a great opportunity to meet a few race teams.

Weekend Tailgating at the Glen

Michael Schlee

It is 11:00PM Saturday night, 300 people have randomly gathered around a kicking sound system and video screen. Music videos are playing, disco balls are spinning and a full light show is blazing. A typical nightclub you say? Well not really, this is happening in front of two RVs sandwiched in amongst thousands of other tents, cars and RVs in a huge open field. Welcome to NASCAR camping.

NASCAR Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen

Recapping the Sprint Cup Race

Michael Schlee

It was like taking all the presents out from under the tree on December 25th and putting them back in your closet. That is the closest way I can describe the crushing disappointment felt when a NASCAR race is called off due to rain roughly 2 minutes from the start. To further this disappointment, imagine being 5 hours from home and knowing that there is no way you can stay an extra day to watch the race Monday.

Well that is exactly what happened to several of us during the pre-race ceremonies for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen. And judging by the number of solemn faces wearing NASCAR t-shirts I past by during my trip back to Canada, there were plenty.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to head down to Watkins Glen International Raceway in New York State to witness the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen. It was a race filled weekend featuring the Grand-Am Rolex Series Crown Royal 200 on Friday, the NASCAR Nationwide Series Zippo 200 on Saturday and finally the NASCAR Sprint Cup Heluva Good Sour Cream Dips at the Glen on Sunday. Well, let’s make that last race Monday instead.

2009 Nissan Rogue SL FWD

A Good Alternative to Honda’s CR-V and Toyota’s RAV4
Anne Proffit, Canadian Auto Press

The 2009 Nissan Rogue SL FWD is pretty much like the 2008 model and there’s nothing to complain about with that. When first introduced last year, I took a Rogue to Las Vegas and back, and enjoyed it.

This year, the beautiful Indigo blue – with gray leather – 2009 Rogue served similar long-distance duty, traveling from Long Beach up to Sonoma and back, plus side trips to the Infineon racetrack each day. Over the road, I had little to beef about with the 2.5L inline four-cylinder engine mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Kia Shows First Renderings of Upcoming Flagship Sedan

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Kia has been very busy revising its lineup this year, and by so doing reinvigorating its brand with an entirely new image. An updated Rio is on the way, the outgoing Spectra has given way to the attractive new Forte sedan and Koup, the all-new Soul is mixing it up in the youth-oriented compact crossover segment, a new Sorento is due soon and, thank goodness, the frumpy albeit well-made Amanti will soon be replaced with this new flagship sedan.

Kia has just released the first renderings of what we have heard is a serious contender for premium class status, a mid-to-full-size model to rival all entry-level brand flagships. Unlike its sister company Hyundai, however, the new Kia won’t be rear-drive and therefore only shares its top-line engine, the 3.8L Lambda V6, with the entry-level Genesis sedan. This will likely be the only engine offered in North American when it arrives next year after making its local debut at the Detroit auto show, with a 2.4L direct-injected four available in other markets. Instead, the top-tier Kia is reported to ride on a modified Hyundai Azera architecture.
