Jar of Cars Contest

Rules and Regulations


Agreement:   These rules govern the “Jar of Cars” (“Contest”). NO ONLINE ENTRY.  NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY to enter the Contest.  The act of entering the Contest constitutes acceptance of the contest rules and the decisions of the Contest judge.  

Sponsor:   The Contest sponsor is Trader Corporation (the “Sponsor”).

Eligibility:   The Contest is open to all residents of Canada who have attained the age of 19 and who have a valid driver’s license, except for employees, immediate families and anyone living with any employee of the Sponsor or its corporate affiliates, Auto Trader retailers, advertising or promotional agencies, employees, agents, representatives, successors or assigns..   Limit of one entry per person per day during the 10 days of the Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS) promotional window, Friday February 13, 2009 through Sunday February 22, 2009.   Only entries submitted at the computer at the Auto Trader Booth at the Canadian International Auto Show by Sunday February 22, 2009 will be accepted into Contest.

Contest:  To enter the Contest, guess the number of cars found within the jar located at the Auto Trader booth and fill out the online ballot on the computer available at the Auto Trader booth.   The entry of the person who has guessed the exact number of cars in the jars or has come the closest will declared by the Contest judge as the winner, subject to the skill-testing question mentioned below.  In the case where more than one person has submitted an entry with the exact number of cars, or in the case where more than one person has submitted an entry with the closest number to the exact number of cars, the winner will be chosen by random draw, which will take place approximately 48 hours after the end date of the CIAS at the offices of the Sponsor located in Toronto, Ontario.  Before being declared a winner, a selected entrant must first correctly answer without assistance of any kind, whether mechanical or otherwise, a time-limited mathematical skill testing question to be administered by telephone or email.  If a selected entrant cannot be contacted and the skill test administered within 48 hours, the Prize will be forfeited and may be awarded to an alternate entrant.  Odds of winning will depend on the total number of eligible entries received at each of the Trade Shows.

Prize:   A one-year car lease for a 2009 Hyundai Genesis Coupe, base model, automatic (value of $9 500) (the “Prize”).  The pick up of the Prize shall the responsibility of the winner.  He or she will be notified of the time and location of the pickup of the Prize, once the vehicle has arrived in Canada and is available for delivery.  No amount shall be due by winner to Sponsor or Prize supplier upon delivery of the Prize.  The winner must bring a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance to take delivery of the vehicle.  Each Prize shall be subject to the Prize supplier’s terms and conditions, and Sponsor shall not be held responsible if winner cannot conform to Prize supplier’s terms and conditions.   If the winner does not claim the Prize within 7 days of the arranged time and location, the next eligible entry selected by random draw will be contacted, and the first entrant selected will have no further claim to the Prize.  The winner cannot substitute the Prize or portion of it nor transfer the Prize in cash.  The Sponsor is not responsible for unclaimed Prizes. Any costs or expenses incurred by the winner claiming the Prize is the responsibility of the winner.

Release:   Prior to receiving the Prize, the winner will be required to show valid photo ID and to sign an affidavit of eligibility and release form releasing the Sponsor, its affiliated and related companies, advertising and promotional agencies, the Contest judges and their respective shareholders, directors, officers, employees, agents, dealers, representatives, successors and assigns from any liability in connection with the Prize and the Contest  (the “Release Form”), and confirming compliance with the Contest rules and regulations and consenting to the use of his or her name, photograph and a video, without further compensation, in any publicity carried out by the Sponsor and/or their advertising and promotional agencies.  Failure to answer the mathematical skill-testing question correctly or failure to return the Release Form within the time period indicated on the Release Form will cause the Prize to be forfeited and a new random draw from the remaining eligible entries will be conducted to select another entry and the process noted above will be repeated until a winner is declared or there are no more eligible entries, whichever comes first.  Winners are responsible for the reporting and payment of any income taxes resulting from the Prize.  

Personal Information:   By entering this Contest, entrants consent to the collection, use and disclosure of their personal information for the purposes of administering the Contest.  By accepting a prize, winners consent to the collection, use and disclosure to the public of their names, addresses (city, province/territory), voices, statements and photographs or other likenesses for publicity purposes in connection with the Contest in any media or formats including, but not limited to, the Internet, without further notice, permission or compensation. Personal information will not otherwise be used or disclosed without consent.

Banning:   The Sponsor may, in its sole discretion, prohibit any person from entering any contest whom it believes to be abusing the rules.   Such abuse includes entering false information and entering more than as stated in the contest rules.  

Other:   All decisions of the Contest judge are final.   The Contest is governed by the laws of Ontario and the laws of Canada applicable therein.  All prizes must be accepted as awarded, are non-transferable and are not convertible to cash. The Sponsor reserves the right to substitute any Prize or portion of the prize with a Prize of equal or greater value. All Prizes are awarded as-is and no warranties or guarantees are implied or expressed, beyond the standard manufacturer’s warranty. Sponsor is not liable for any lost or stolen entries or inability to process entries, or any errors, damage or negligence that may arise in connection with this Contest.

Cancellation: The Sponsor reserves the right to void any entry and/or cancel or modify the contest in whole or in part (without notice to entrants individually) if, in its sole subjective discretion, it determines that for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as originally planned, fraud, technical failures, human, printing or distribution errors, or any causes or occurrences have compromised the administration, safety, fairness or integrity of the Contest.
